Center wants to start building special needs chairs

We have a goal to start building special needs chairs here in Kano! It’s heart-breaking, but many of our younger children lay in bed at home most of the day. A sturdy chair with straps and padding can help some of our more challenged children stay upright during their lessons. This will greatly improve their muscle strengthening in their back, neck and core. We are currently using used car seats we found along the highway and repurposing them for our children.

Unlike education in the U.S., younger children with special needs who cannot walk in Nigeria often do not have a wheelchair. We’d like to have a local carpenter create modified chairs from local iron and plywood materials, along with sturdy straps and clips. The estimated cost per chair is $100.

In the local economy, it is actually very affordable to have a chair built instead of buying one at a store.  We’d like to have at least five chairs built by the end of 2024. Click here to donate to the construction of our new chairs; we will use each chair for so many years and each one helps so many little ones!
