Our new four-bedroom home/ office are up and running, but it is has been an uphill climb with no electricity, folks. We picked out a lovely robin egg blue for the paint, and have most of the ceiling and cracks in the wall repaired.
We tried to fill the house's old water tank on the first day of the move, but it exploded and the tower collapsed in the yard. Quite the video! We have it here for your viewing pleasure in slow motion.
We purchased a new water tank and tower with your generous donations, and this one is doing well. We fill it twice a day when clean water is available, but sometimes the water shuts off in the city.
New water tank and tower
The house and office we moved into had been sitting vacant for more than 15 years. This meant that a lot of work needed to take place in order to make it livable for our family and all of the Shield activities. Our entire soccer team of 26 athletes got to scrubbing and in 3 weeks we had moved into the house! I would love to say that everything is running smoothly, but the National Electric grid across Nigeria has collapsed three times this past week. We have been trying to figure out how to manage the solar and using a generator for a lot of the work around the house. Obviously, everyone across Nigeria is hoping they will be able to repair the problems soon and electricity will be restored across the country.
On our first day, we also filled up the water tank behind the house and it immediately fell over. So, this meant that we had to get a new tank and rebuild the tower. Even this morning, I woke up to no water or electricity. So, it has been an adventure to get everything up and running in the house.
Thank you so much to all of you who gave so generously to make this house a possibility. We are truly so thankful to each of you. We are hopeful this will continue to be a wonderful location for our family and for the work of Shield City.
